- A form of Vitamin B3, one of the most well-studied and versatile actives in skincare.
- How it works
- Niacinamide strengthens the skin's natural barrier, regulates oil production, and interrupts the pigment-transfer process that leads to dark spots, all without disrupting the skin's pH.
- Clinical benefits
- Reduces sebum production, visibly minimizes pores over consistent use, improves barrier function, and calms inflammation — one of the few actives suited to nearly every skin type.
- Typical concentration
- Effective between 2–5%; higher concentrations don't necessarily mean better results and can increase irritation risk for sensitive skin.
- Who should use it
- Almost everyone with oily, acne-prone, dry and sensitive skin all tolerate Niacinamide well.
- Who should avoid it
- Rarely an issue, though those with a known Niacinamide sensitivity may experience mild flushing.
- Can it be layered?
- Yes, pairs well with almost every other active, including Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid, and Salicylic Acid.
- Common myth
- That Niacinamide "cancels out" Vitamin C when layered. Modern formulations have resolved this; the two can be used together without issue.
- What it is
- A beta-hydroxy acid (BHA), oil-soluble, making it especially effective for acne-prone and oily skin.
- How it works
- Salicylic Acid penetrates into the pore lining and dissolves the buildup of oil and dead skin cells that lead to breakouts, while also carrying anti-inflammatory properties that calm existing acne.
- Clinical benefits
- Reduces active breakouts, prevents new congestion from forming, and smooths skin texture over consistent use.
- Typical concentration
- Youth Face's Pimple Free Serum is formulated at 2%, an effective, well-tolerated strength for regular use. Lower concentrations are used in rinse-off formats (face wash, scrub).
- Who should use it
- Oily and acne-prone skin types see the most benefit.
- Who should avoid it
- Very dry or sensitive skin should introduce it gradually; not recommended during pregnancy without medical guidance.
- Can it be layered?
- Best used carefully alongside other exfoliating actives (avoid combining with additional acids in the same routine) — pairs well with Niacinamide, which helps offset potential dryness.
- Common myth
- That Salicylic Acid "dries out" all skin types. At the right concentration and frequency, it treats acne without stripping the skin when paired with adequate hydration.

- A naturally derived skin-brightening ingredient, produced through the fermentation of certain fungi/rice.
- How it works
- Kojic Acid inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for producing melanin, reducing the formation of new pigmentation over time.

- Gradual, visible brightening of pigmented areas with consistent use — typically noticeable results within several weeks of regular application.
- Typical concentration
- Commonly formulated between 1–4% in leave-on products for a balance of efficacy and tolerability.
- Who should use it
- Anyone dealing with pigmentation or uneven tone, particularly effective for sun-related dark spots.
- Who should avoid it
- Those with very sensitive or reactive skin should patch-test first, as Kojic Acid can occasionally cause irritation with prolonged use.
- Can it be layered?
- Works well alongside Niacinamide and Alpha Arbutin for a combined brightening effect - sun protection is essential when using it, since pigmentation actives can increase photosensitivity.

- That Kojic Acid "bleaches" skin. It doesn't strip pigment already present; it slows the production of new excess pigment.
